We are learning about Vincent Van Gogh and his bright brilliant strokes of color. Using Wheat and Cypress landscape as inspiration, we learned how to layer and blend soft pastels. Each finished painting was a little different. We tried to use strokes with our pastel like the direction of the growing bush, tree, or wheat.
The Sixth grade drew their self portrait while looking into a mirror in the shape of a convex glass ornament ball. They had to draw the first perspective (themself) and the second perspective behind them. The background looked distorted from what you would expect. Students were encouraged to draw what they see.
After using charcoal as the medium for drawing, we finished the portraits with watercolor.
