Self Portraits in Watercolor in a New Perspective

Sixth grade tried a new angle on self portraits. Each student was given a silver Christmas ball and drew their image and behind them on a circle.  This was a practice sketch.

Next  we redrew on a circle of watercolor using charcoal only. The students were instructed on the use of charcoal and how to draw very lightly.

We looked at Jan Van Eyck's painting Arnolfini's Wedding.

We talked about symbolism in his work. Students learned the various symbols and what they stood for.
Here is the same type of view as the glass ball seen in a convex mirror.

Lastly we used watercolor and learned to mix our flesh colors.
