A fourth Grade tradition is their Pirate Day. In preparation , they read the story Treasure Island in class. They are also learning about maps. We made a Treasure Island map in art class. |
The first step is to draw the outline of the map and to imagine their own island they want to portray. |
The students add pictures of landforms, compass rose, ships, and sea faring creatures. Colored pencils are used to give some color |
The treasure is marked with a red X and some places mentioned in the book such as spyglass hill. |
The last step is to use liquid watercolor for the water, land, and scroll ends. When dry, the map is cut out. |
